Scripture Thoughts on Revival

SOME THOUGHTS ON REVIVAL FROM            SCRIPTURE AND PREACHERS OF PAST                                        YEARS

2 Chronicles 7: 14:

"If my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive  their sin, and will heal their land."

March 1860 ~ August 1947

British Evangelist who conducted evangelistic campaigns in the United States and Great Britain for over 40 years

Gypsy Smith was asked how to start a revival.  He answered, "Go home, lock yourself in your room and kneel down in the middle of the floor.  Draw a chalk mark all around yourself and ask God to start a revival inside that chalk mark.  When He has answered your prayer, the revival will be on."

               DR. R. A.  TORREY

January 1856 ~ October 1928

American Evangelist

Revival is something deeper than a week of meetings with an evangelist, or an outstanding musical group packing in crowds to hear Gospel music.  It cannot be the experience of the world.   It cannot be the experience of the world.

Revival has to do with bringing back life and is specifically the business of Christians.

Dr. R. A. Torrey, the famous revivalist, once said, "I can give a prescription that will bring a revival to any church or community or any city on earth.  First, let a few Christians {they need not be many} get thoroughly right with God themselves.  This is the prime essential.  If this is not done, the rest I am to say will come to nothing.

"Second, let them bind themselves together in a prayer group to pray for revival until God opens the heavens and comes down."

"Third, let them put themselves at the disposal of God for Him to use as He sees fit in winning others to Christ.  That is all.:

"This is sure to bring a revival to any church or community.  I have given this prescription around the world.  It has been taken by many churches and communities, and in no instance has it ever failed, and it cannot fail."

"A mother once took her child to a doctor because of a raging fever.  The doctor remembered he had seen the child for an illness only a few days earlier.  Upon questioning the mother, he found she had not had the prescription filled that he had given her."

Isaiah 59: 1

"Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear."

                      CHARLES G. FINNEY

 August 20, 1795 ~ August 10, 1865

The great revivalist, Charles G. Finney  once  wrote, "Since a revival can never lay hold upon the world until it has first laid hold on the church.

Backslidden Christians must be brought to repentance.  They must have their faith renewed.  Before the world can be moved, we must renew the image of Jesus Christ in ourselves.  It is vain even to call upon the church to love others when the church has ceased loving Christ first."

{From Jesus to the church at Ephesus.}

"Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because

thou has left thy first love."
